COVER ART FOR THE SAN JUAN HORSESHOE

MaryJoy Martin's cover art for the parody periodical began in the 1980s, at the time when the Shoe was a monthly publication. She signed some cover art with her full name and others with the professional name she uses for fine art paintings and sculptures—MerryJoy. This was not meant to confuse the distracted, but to honor her Inner Rodent, which was more than merry. Due to the vast number of these works, only a few samples are shown here. These illustrate the range of her work, from pen-and-ink to photography, from paintings to pixelations; from the comic to the sublime, from the silly to the deviant.
