| After graduating from crayons and walls, MerryJoy began working
in watermedia early in her career. Many of her works were done as posters,
commissioned by Denver-area businesses and executed on poster board. She soon
fell in love with hot and cold pressed watercolour papers, creating a series of
mystical works inspired by Puebloan mythology. One series titled, “Hopi Song: A Spirit Gathering,” was a solo exhibition at the Foothills Art Centre, Golden, Colorado, in 1981 and traveled on to De Colores Art Gallery, and Central City Art Gallery. Most of that series was sold and this page showcases these works as well as other watermedia paintings from the last few decades. Most of MerryJoy's art is multi-layered, with half-hidden creatures, spirits, or symbols blended into the main subject. This style was popularized later as much sought-after wearable art designs produced by EarthZone, Inc. and Arctic Heat, Inc. MerryJoy continues to create mysterious works with hidden creatures.
